As usual it's a great piece by Desai. Domestic servants are getting costlier day by day.It is easier to find a tutor but not a domestic help. But no credit goes to to the so called custodians of the proletariat.Young people of poor families are taking up professions other than serving as domestic helps. The market determines the rate.Nowadays plumbers, masons and other manual labourers come on their own bikes. Mrinal Sen's Kharij portrays how inhumanly domestic servants are treated in middle class society. Some people make excuses that if they do not employ them, the poor will remain unfed.Feudalism is still flowing in our blood.

Hi Santosh

An excellent and timely article specially considering the "undemocratic" tag that is being attached to the Anna Hazare led Jan Lokpal campaign. What people fail to see is that such "undemocratic" means have to be adopted since the so called "democratic" ones don't seem to work.

Santosh

Here, from a fellow traveller... I hear you. I have been saying this for about 4 years now.

Trying to tell my friends. Trying to enlighten them about the being MSD is.

But as it goes with some things, you cant force the vision into someone's mind

MSD is currently the greatest human being we can see in India, and has been for a long time.

I am glad, you touch the level of understanding, that surpasses most boundaries, and almost assimilates - into the real truth...

The article 'Bharat loses it's buland tasveer' was a delight to read n i went nostalgic about the era gone by... like changes in telecommunication, auto, pay packages, IT as emergent industry, infrastructure and more importantly the aspirational and attitudinal changes of middleclass
India.
The scooter as a simile for the middleclass value system and the average male is indeed true. Thanks i now understand, why the scooter had a natural connect with the middleclass and as a kid i too enjoyed the scooter ride more than the motorcycle.
A qoute from TV series wonder years that, 'Change is never easy. You fight to hold on. You fight to let go.' justifies our connect with the Hamara Bajaj when the company decided to halt scooter production.
